Permanent Residency Visas (PR) Subclasses

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) allows international students who have recently completed their studies in Australia to live, study, and work temporarily after graduation.

This visa is an excellent opportunity for graduates to gain hands-on work experience, improve their skills in the Australian workforce, and pave the way for permanent residency in the future.

Depending on your qualification and study level, you can apply for one of two main streams each designed to help you transition smoothly from student life to professional success.

Visa Streams

1. Graduate Work Stream

  • For international students who have completed a diploma or trade qualification closely related to an occupation listed on Australia’s Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

  • This stream allows you to stay in Australia for up to 18 months to gain practical experience in your nominated occupation.

  • You must have applied for and obtained a skills assessment in your chosen occupation.

2. Post-Study Work Stream

  • For students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s or PhD) from a CRICOS-registered institution in Australia.

  • This stream allows you to stay for 2 to 4 years, depending on your qualification level and location of study.

  • It provides valuable time to build your career, gain Australian work experience, and prepare for PR pathways such as the Skilled Independent (189) or Skilled Nominated (190) visas.
